A BIT ABOUT US...

Twilight & FIligree is charismatic and unique leather jewelry and accessories, featuring intricate and ornate laser cut designs. Almost everything here is made from USA produced vegetable tanned leather (leather that is tanned (preserved) using oak and other vegetable tannins in a traditional, old world technique) and is hand painted with high quality leather paints. All necklace, bracelets and cuffs are hand burnished with carnuba wax and almond oil, making the leather soft and pliable. All findings are sterling silver unless otherwise noted. Twilight and Filigree products are made in Portland, Oregon. 

5% of profits are donated to The International Center for Research on Women, specifically to help prevent child marriage.

TWILIGHT & FILIGREE'S PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy is bound to the ideas of natural origins, minimal waste and low toxicity. Our production, material and packaging choices are guided by these rules. 

~We use vegetable tanned ("veg tan") leather in all our jewelry. This uses a more natural and less toxic tanning process compared to the ordinary chrome tanned leather, which is used in most leather apparel and upholstery. The veg tan leather we use is produced in the USA, as opposed to other leading leather producing countries where tanneries have lower environmentally standards. When we do use chrome tanned leather, it is scraps from the apparel and upholstery industries that would otherwise be discarded. 

~When sourcing materials, we choose companies and materials which are produced as locally as possible, keeping fuel consumption to a minimum. 

~When cutting leather, we take extra time for the layout process in order to keep waste to a minimum. The scrap that we do not use is donated to a local, non-profit art and craft supply center.

~We use high quality acrylic paint on the leather, which is better for our skin and the environment than any dyes or oil-based paint. With it we can have full control of the colors, getting the vivid, beautiful hues that you see on the leather, which are mixed with skin tones in mind. 

~Small items are shipped in CareMail brand recycled padded envelopes, which use no plastic and contain 90% total recycled content including 50% post-consumer content. Necklaces and other larger items are shipped in mailers/ boxes that meet comparably green standards. All packaging is recycleable, if not also reused.
